Diabetes Part I

Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Changes in Diabetes
Mahmoud Soliman (Cairo)
Full scatter panretinal argon laser photocoagulation
is the main line of treatment for patients
with severe non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy and proliferative diabetic
retinopathy. ETDS
reported many side effects of laser treatment but RNFL damage and visual
field constriction
are the most common to occur.
In this study, the effect of full scatter panretinal argon laser photocoagulation
on the RNFL thickness was assessed with a correlation between the number
of laser shots and the amount of reduction in the RNFL thickness. This
was done using two different instruments, the OCT and the HRT and the
results obtained were compared.
