Vitrectomy for Posterior Traction Retinal Detachment
in Highly Myopic Eyes: is ILM Peeling Needed?
Yannick le Mer (Paris)
Physiopathology of posterior tractional retinal detachment or schisis in highly myopic eyes
remains unclear. Most of these eyes seem to have a posterior vitreous separation prior to
macular detachment. Nevertheless, the systematic use of triamcinolone during vitrectomy
allows to find remnants of vitreous cortex at the surface of retina. If a thorough removal of
these remnants could lead to a reattachment of the retina without internal limiting membrane
peeling, we could avoid a difficult and perhaps traumatizing surgical step.
We present our result in a series of 10 consecutives eyes operated with this technique, without
ILM peeling.
